Written for and read at the wedding of Clair and Jay Gregory in November 2019
There are lots of things we might say about love,
but words can’t truly describe it.
We all need it like the air we breathe,
and we find it in one another.
Sometimes love is uncertain.
It’s meeting an incredible woman,
knowing there is a spark
but not knowing if that spark will become a something.
So love is found in friendship
and in hoping that perhaps,
maybe one day,
She might see you, the way you see her.
Sometimes love is a beautiful surprise,
that gently grows with friendship over time.
That kind and generous friend
who is always there when you need him,
and who you find yourself just wanting to be around,
more and more.
Until one day you realise,
that he is the someone that you can not be without.
So today we gather to celebrate on this their wedding day,
witnesses to the promises they make to one another.
As they stand before God and say
I Choose You.
But this is about a marriage not just a wedding day,
and when the honeymoon is over and the wedding day is gone,
the promises you make today, go on and on and on.
They carry you through joy and sorrow, through the highs and lows of life.
Because love is also a choice, its an act of the will,
it’s a daily decision to say to one another again
I Choose You.
