Imagine you’re writing your story
What would the plot lines be?
What would you say about yourself?
What would you want others to see?
Are there things you’d rather hide away
Buried in the footnotes
Hidden in the pages
As your ‘not so finest moments’
But what if there’s a bigger story
An ancient story, that’s still being written
And what if, in this epic script,
All our stories weave together
There’s a story of real life adventure
That invites us all to join in
It calls us to our truest selves
And echoes Hope through all creation
It calls us to look for beauty
Amongst the brokenness of life
Not to hide away from pain
But stand in it with one another
It calls us to live as Jesus did
A life that blesses others
It’s a call to hope, to something more,
To believing in one another.
It calls to the hungers of the human heart
Our deepest needs and longings
To be known, and seen, and loved
And it calls us to life together.
Originally written for the launch of Anchor Church. The final piece used by the church changed a bit as they wanted to make it more personal to them, but this is the piece as I wrote it. On reflection I think it describes something of how I understand the Kingdom of God.
